Outfit Snap: Going to a Barbeque

There was a lovely courtyard with plenty of space for tables and chairs (and already with a grill).

Luckily, it even had pretty decor worth taking pictures with! Miss Nena kindly took many pictures for me. I had forgotten to take any before I left the house, so it was certainly appreciated!

I had planned on wearing an entirely different outfit, but when I went to try it on it simply didn’t fit. I looked awkwardly swamped everything–like I was a child playing dress-up in my mother’s closet. (Although that would mean I must have one heck of a frilly-frilly mother.) I tossed together this outfit very quickly, right before we had to run out the door.

This is the first time I’ve had to wear the cutsew given to me by my dear little sister from her trip to Japan in the early summer. The sailor collar is absolutely my favourite part–I love sailor outfits! It really added a different take to the red jumperskirt that I’ve worn many, many times. I almost didn’t wear the large satin bow from the cutsew, but I’m glad I did. It added a nice touch. ♥

Mallow has a visitor in this picture–Miss Nena’s teeny-tiny pink bunny-bear-bag. It’s so cute, but so very impractical as well.

This picture shows off my new haircut pretty well! (Although I’ve had this haircut for a month now…but even though I chose this style because I love lolita so much, I didn’t have a chance to wear lolita fashion since I got the haircut!) I spent some time on my hair, which is rather unusual. I slept in foam rollers to get more than just one ringlet for each pigtail, although the pigtails are nothing new and exciting–but I like wearing them~ ♥

Outfit Snap: Bunnies, Cherries, AND Berries

Today was my birthday, so I celebrated by dressing up~! In my family, birthdays are always given a special importance. Even if I haven’t the money to spend for frivolities, the ability to schedule something with my busy friends, or a massively delicious dessert made in my honor, there is always something that can be done! My person was a true dear and treated me like a princess all day–he even fetched my things while I dressed.

My little sister bought the pink Cherry Berry Bunny jumperskirt from Angelic Pretty while she was on a school trip in Japan. I wanted it even before she went, but I was not able to afford to ask her for it. She returned with it anyway, because the print is truly amazing, and now I am slowly buying it from her. She dropped it off the other day, even though it is not paid off, giving me the opportunity to wear it today~ ♥

I don’t own any of the matching accessories. This isn’t much of a problem, except for the fact that Cherry Berry Bunny is trimmed in dark pink eyelet lace. The lace itself is adorable–tiny bunnies stitched into it–but it’s such an odd color choice! None of my socks or hair accessories have pink lace–it’s almost all white. I think I managed as best I could. I was very glad that at least the pinks all matched~!

Overall, my day was lovely, and being dressed up in a new something that I have yearned for since I saw pictures on the blogs added an extra-special touch! I feel so fortunate! ♥ What a happy day~

Although I personally find it to be the most fun to wear an elaborate lolita fashion outfit, coordinated with several accessories, sometimes I need more practicality. As much as blouses, jumperskirts, one-pieces, cutsews, knee-socks, and fancy shoes make me feel like a fairy, it isn’t always worthwhile.

Today I am doing housework and enjoying a “white day” with my person, so I wanted to dress up, but didn’t want to wear something I might splash with bleach from scrubbing the tub. Lazing about on the floor wrinkles skirts and petticoats, and I haven’t an iron in my new apartment. Dusting and vacuuming can become very complicated if there are trims and ribbons dangling from one’s outfit.

So I wore a skirt that I very much adore but have been unable to coordinate well. It is Bodyline‘s “fruits parlor” replica–a wonderful gift from my little sister. ♥ The skirt is gorgeous, but it uses a lot of peachy-pinks that don’t match the more violet-pinks or red-pinks in the rest of my clothing. Even the reds on the skirt aren’t similar to any reds I own–not even on a t-shirt! It can be frustrating, and I’ve rarely managed anything I want to wear to a meetup.

Since I’m going to be indoors, enjoying myself, I just wore it with a yellow tank-top (as there are yellow lemons on the skirt) and a pink sweater that isn’t the right shade. My strawberry hair-clips are the only matching part!

Regardless of disappointment in my coordination, I still feel like a lolita to sit here typing in my poofy skirt, and I certainly wouldn’t be happier in jeans!

It feels like it’s been forever-and-ever-and-a-day since I last wore a lolita outfit, although I know that the last time wasn’t quite so long ago. (The wonderful picnic and walk that I attended on May 31, 2009 was a lolita fashion meetup, after all!)

I moved not too terribly long ago, and when I did so a lot of my belongings were stored in the room at my mother’s house. My person and I could not afford to rent a moving van, so we had to move necessities a bit at a time whenever anyone was kind enough to drive us to our house. The rest we carried when we rode the L train back into the city of Chicago. Due to this odd method of moving, my lolita clothing was rather laid by the wayside–left at my mother’s house with no-one so intent on getting it moved in as I was.

Today I shall be meeting with some friends–something about zombie cake–so it seemed the perfect occasion. I happened to ask if there was anything in particular I ought to wear (I love getting opinions!) and was told, “Anything anti-Moitié.” Well, that was certainly easy given my closet!

My wonderful person helped me assemble this outfit. I am particularly proud of the wrist cuffs. They started off as white wrist cuffs handmade by my little sister, and I added large bows that match the dress for a little something extra. For some reason this one-piece is a bit on the shorter side, but hopefully I can get away with it since this is summertime~

Goodness, you could never guess my favourite lolita fashion brand after that!

About the Blog

Pink Milk Tea is my attempt at writing a blog focusing on lolita fashion from the perspective of one sweet lolita. It will have entries on different topics related to the fashion or the authoress.

There is no direct plan for this blog. I want to write about lolita fashion because it plays a significant and important role in my life. I would like to share my writings with other lolita or interested parties.

About Lolita Fashion

Lolita fashion is a Japanese style that takes inspiration from young girl’s clothing of Victorian England, the decadence of Rococo art and interior design, and the dreams of an utopian anachronistic era that never was. Lolita clothing is designed to look inspired by the past but utterly unhistorical. There are many sub-styles of lolita fashion with slightly different characteristics, such as gothic lolita, sweet lolita, and classic lolita. There are also complimentary styles such as Japanese gothic, aristocrat, and dandy-looking boy styles.

The major publication for lolita fashion is the Gothic & Lolita Bible. Recently the American company Tokyopop has released several volumes of an English-language adaptation Gothic & Lolita Bible.

Lolita fashion is not connected to the well-known novel by Vladimir Nabokov. Although the historical origins of lolita fashion are vague, the fashion evolved from other Japanese styles. Lolita fashion is not a sexual fetish or connected to sexual activities.

About the Authoress

I, Alice, have been wearing lolita fashion since 2006. I am a sweet lolita, adoring everything fluffy, pink, and cute~ ♥ I am not a “lifestyle lolita,” but I enjoy the rosy tint that lolita fashion has cast over my day-to-day life. I am an active member of Chicago’s gothic & lolita community, and moderate ChiGothLoli, where we plan events and talk.

When not wearing frills, I enjoy spending time with my person and my guinea pigs, causing mischief with my dear friends, rocking hard to heavy metal music, and eating as many cupcakes as I possibly can. I study accounting at business school and love it!
